2010

Had a wonderful relaxed time at The Mill.  Really easy to get around the area, and everyone was very friendly. Especially gratefull for the extended stay and all the help we received when the volcano in Iceland prevented flights returning to the UK - it could have been very stressful, but the extended stay gave us time to visit those places which we had missed.

Really enjoyed the archeological site at Aptera, and the cave at Sofia.

Had a beautiful day at the beach at Elefonisi, although driving the mountain roads tested the nerves!

All in all a perfect holiday, much needed by all of us.  A special thanks to Cathy for rescuing us when we got lost on our first night, and allowing the the extra days at the end of our holiday.

A lovely week here in Crete, and our second visit to The Mill.

Thoroughly recommend the beach at Paleochora, a choice of pebbly or sand, depending on which side of the village you are.

As usual, super food, especially in Kolymbari and Kissamos (warning - avoid the taverna on the way to Kolymbari called H Xara!), the other restaurants we tried were simply marvelous - enjoy!

The Mill was a perfect place for us, with grandparents, 3 couples and 7 babies.

A beautifully restored house, with a real feeling of history.

We've been to Crete many times, but this was our first stay and The Mill, and hopefully will not be our last.

Had a fabulous holiday (despite the strike by fuel tanker drivers which lasted for 4 days).

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole Crete experience - what a truly beautiful place.

The Mill and swimming pool were first rate.

I shall remember our family time here when we have all gone home; myself and my husband back to Cape Town in South Africa, and my 2 daughters, their husbands and our 3 lovely grandchildren back to England.

Thank you so much.

The Green Family (from Aldershot, Hampshire) and the Bartley Family (from Congleton, Cheshire) had a fabulous time here at The Mill.

We loved the rural setting, the warm swimming pool and the sea, the hot weather (sometimes a little too hot!), the friendly people and the wonderful wildlife (we found a scorpion in the downstairs Bathroom one morning!).

Our highlights, hints and tips are as follows:

  •   we would recommend a trip to Hania - great harbour,
  •   loved the beach at Afrata - shingly but great snorkelling,
  •   Imbros Gorge - leave early, can be chilly first thing but soon warms up,
  •   Elefonisi - really beautiful - don't bother with sunbeds, the best place is on the little island, again great snorkelling - a long drive, but well worth it,
  •   Falasarna - another great beach

The only downside was a temperamental fridge/freezer in the Kitchen.

Thank you for a truly wonderful holiday.

PS.  There are both snakes and scorpions on Crete.  Snakes are very rarely seen, usually only when they are crossing a road, I've seen two in the past 12 years.   Scorpions are more common, and tend to be the small, about 30mm long, variety, but can still sting.  My apologies for the defective fridge/frezzer - I was not aware of the problem - a new one has been ordered for 2011!.  Steve Bennett

The holiday and villa were great.  Hope to come here again.
