The West of Crete offers the walker scope for spectacular walks through a number of Gorges linking old villages and harbours on the south coast with the north. The most popular Gorges are the Samaria and Imbros.

When To Go

Between early April and mid May is generally considered to be the most favourable time to walk on Crete. The weather is generally very pleasant, and the wild Spring flowers are in full bloom. The period between mid September and the end of October is also very pleasant, but the county side will have an arid and barren feel to it, having been subject to three months of no rain and the hot summer sun.
