Platanias

Kato (Lower) Platanias is a lively small town on the 'Old' coast road to Hania with seemingly endless cafes, tavernas, hotels and shops (Mylos Restaurant is a 'must'). Long sandy EU 'Blue Flag' beach with water sports, sun beds and umbrellas. Can get crowded in July and August. Numerous beachside bars serving cool drinks and typical Greek snacks. Excellent tavernas in the hill top Pano (Upper) Platanias, spectacular views at sunset. Drive time from The Mill, about 25mins (Opposite the beach is 'Thodorou Island', uninhabited, and a protected refuge for a few of the remaining mountain Cretan Ibex or wild goat (Kri-Kri), virtually hunted to extinction. Contains remains of Venetian fortresses and a Minoan Sanctuary)
