Stavros

Small circular bay located on the northern tip of the Akrotiri Peninsula, not far from Hania Airport, and about 15km from the town of Hania.  Stavros is a dispersed district with no traditional village centre.

Beautiful safe sandy beach, clean blue sea and shallow water for the younger children.

A few good tavernas are located close to the beach.

(Location of the beach dance scene in the 1964 Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates film ‘Zorba the Greek’ based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis and the memorable theme tune ‘Sirtaki’ by Mikis Theodorakis, still popular in Greece as a song and dance – but why did their names end in ‘akis’?)

(Visit the nearby early C17th working Monastery of Ayia Triada with its small museum and shop offering the monk's ‘home made’ wine and olive-oil)

Drive time from The Mill, about 50mins
