Birding Birding holidays are intended to be an enjoyable and flexible week, with the itinerary adapted to suit the wishes of the participants. Bird watching breaks take place over a four week period, generally between mid April and mid May, subject to sufficient interest (minimum 6 persons per group). During your stay at The Mill, there will be 3 one-day bird watching excursions, generally on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The group will be led by Mike Meecham, and I am confident that you will find in Mike an unrivalled combination of experience, knowledge, ability and enthusiasm. In addition to Mike's commentary on bird life, trips will also include general information about Cretan history, and sites of general interest. The sites which form the basis of these holidays are listed below, and will be selected based on the desires of members of the group, the weather and Mike's local knowledge. In alphabetical order, they are Agia Reservoir, Hania harbour (and a boat trip from Hania), Kourtaliotiko Gorge, Omalos Plateau, Petres River Gorge, Theriso and the Theriso Gorge, Topolia and the Venezelous graves. Your transport will be a modern mini bus (probably a Fiat Scudo). Flexibility remains a key factor, but generally you will leave The Mill about 9.30am, break for lunch about 1.30pm, and return to The Mill at about 5.00pm. In addition to the occupation rate of The Mill, the all-inclusive cost for the three birding days will be £85.00 per person. This sum includes Mike’s time as your guide for the three days and the hire cost of the mini bus, driver, and fuel. The cost excludes food and drink. The minibus is hired on the basis of the normal Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), which does not include Personal Accident Insurance.
